Chocolate Hummus

This chocolate dessert hummus is a pleasant and delicious surprise! Kids love this stuff and don’t even realize it’s made with beans.

Ingredients

  • 1 can garbanzo beans (no salt) drain & reserve aquafaba*
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup 100% pure maple syrup or agave
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp reserved aquafaba (bean water)
  • 2-3 tbsp water as needed for blending
  • 1/4 cup dairy free chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  1. Drain beans and reserve the aquafaba (bean water)

  2. Pour beans into blender and pulse a few times to start breaking them up.

  3. Add cocoa, maple syrup, vanilla, salt, and 2 tbsp of reserved aquafaba.  Pulse and blend, adding more water as necessary to help with the blending process. 

  4. Using a spatula to scrape the blender bowl to be sure all the beans are blended in well. Continue blending until smooth. 

  5. Blend in the chocolate chips or keep the chips whole by folding them into the hummus before serving. 

Recipe Notes

Serve warm or chilled with apple slices and pretzels.

  • Spread on toast or waffles
  • Make a sandwich with sliced bananas
  • Dip fresh or frozen banana slices
  • Dip strawberries or kiwi

*Aquafaba = bean water
