Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup turbinado sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup plant milk almond, soy, oat, etc.
  • 1/2 cup applesauce 100% fruit, no sugar added
  • 1/2 cup nut or seed butter
  • 1 cup dairy-free chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.

  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, cocoa, and salt in a mixing bowl and stir together.

  3. Combine the milk, applesauce, and nut butter in another bowl and whisk together with a fork until smooth.

  4. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour-in the wet ingredients. Mix until smooth and well blended.

  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and stir until evenly dispersed. 

  6. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and smooth with rubber spatula.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. 

Recipe Notes

Sprinkle with powered sugar if desired and serve with a fresh, hot cup of coffee or tea!
